Suzanne Dunn was born in Berkeley, CA and raised in Marin County and San Francisco. She currently lives and works in Northern CA on the Sonoma/Mendocino Coast.

Suzanne grew up in an artistic family. Her mother who was an Abstract Expressionist painter in Berkeley and her maternal grandmother was a watercolorist in the MidWest. Through them she learned painting and about 20th Art. As an adult, Dunn grew to love MCM architecture and design, both of which inform her current line of ceramics.

Suzanne Dunn started her arts education at high school in painting and ceramics, then continued to work in those mediums at art school. She graduated from San Francisco Art Institute with a BFA in 1995. After leaving SF, she continued her education in art history, ceramics, and sculpture at CCA and UCLA.

Dunn is currently working with light and medium tone, sandy stoneware, fired in a cone 6 oxidation firing. The pieces are painstakingly painted by hand and have their own set of design motifs which, occasionally, repeat, but rarely in the same pattern- mugs excepted.

Suzanne also has a background in cone 10-12 wood fired ceramics. She has helped fire several large Anagama kilns in North Wisconsin and Northern California. She has also worked with Japanese Master Potter Shiro Otani. In the future (2028) she plans to fire her own wood fire kiln. Her studio is based on the Mendocino Coast.

Suzanne Dunn sells her work at studio & makers’ sales throughout the year. She is represented by Oli Gallery in Guerneville, CA.
